Inside Ascend
Summer Newsletter
As we move through the summer months, we take time to recognize both PTSD Awareness Month and National Minority Mental Health Awareness Month—two observances that call us to deepen our understanding, compassion, and responsiveness to the diverse experiences of those we serve.
We want to start by expressing our sincere appreciation for each of you. The care you provide—often in the context of trauma, adversity, and systemic barriers—is meaningful, complex, and deeply impactful. Your consistent presence, clinical expertise, and commitment to meeting individuals where they are does not go unnoticed.
This combined focus invites us to reflect not only on the impact of trauma, but also on how culture, identity, and lived experience shape mental health needs and access to care. Trauma-informed care and culturally responsive practice go hand in hand. Effective support requires more than clinical knowledge—it calls for intentional collaboration, humility, trust-building, and a commitment to equity.
As we continue this work together, we remain grounded in creating spaces that promote safety, empowerment, and healing for all individuals, families, and communities.
As part of our continued focus on integrating evidence-based tools into our practice, we will be reinforcing key components of trauma-informed assessment and safety planning. This includes strengthening our use of structured screening tools, enhancing clinical decision-making around risk, and ensuring that safety planning remains collaborative, individualized, and actionable.
Thank you for your continued professionalism, teamwork, and dedication to delivering high-quality, person-centered care. Your efforts—both in direct service and in collaboration with colleagues and community partners—are central to advancing our mission and supporting meaningful healing for those we serve.

C-SSRS Roll Out
Phase 1 of the C-SSRS rollout is now live, with clinicians implementing the screener as part of every patient encounter to support early identification of suicide risk and strengthen patient safety. Consistent use of this evidence-based tool ensures we are delivering high-quality, standardized care across all settings. As you continue integrating the C-SSRS into your workflow, please reach out to your manager with any questions, challenges, or feedback—we appreciate your partnership in this important initiative.
Safety Planning Launched June 15
Phase 2 of the Suicide Screening & Risk Assessment Initiative launched June 15, introducing Safety Planning as a critical next step in supporting patient safety and risk mitigation. Building on the foundation of the C-SSRS rollout, clinicians will begin integrating collaborative, individualized safety plans into care when indicated.
CEED will provide comprehensive support, including:
- Best practice training tips
- Instructional videos
- Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPGs) available in Relias for review and attestation
We appreciate your continued commitment to delivering thoughtful, proactive, and evidence-based care, and encourage you to connect with your manager with any questions or feedback as you begin implementation.
